A feasibility study towards the conceptual development of a real-time digital twin to reduce dwell time variations on the Thameslink route
OpenSpace Group Ltd
In collaboration with the University of Birmingham, Network Rail, the Rail Delivery Group and Govia Thameslink Railway
SUMMARY
The project will use the OpenSpace platform’s data and simulation functionalities to understand how people move through stations and the wider railway network, with the aim of establishing correlations between delays and the flow and density of people at key nodes (such as ‘bottleneck’ stations) and enabling users to make informed customer-centric decisions.
The output will provide a deeper understanding of the ‘typical’ baseline performance of the network an early warning system when this deviates from expectations. This will give capacity planners tools, insights and recommendations to improve timetable planning and disruption recovery.
